Things to near Danforth and East York

The store sits right on the historical southern edge of East York, where Danforth Avenue has been the rough border for close to a century. That puts you in reach of two very different afternoons, north into East York or west along the Danforth. Here is what we tell friends when they ask.

Head west along Danforth Avenue and you are in Greektown within a few minutes, still the city’s densest stretch of Greek and Mediterranean restaurants. Keep going and you land at the Danforth Music Hall, the 1919 venue that keeps the block interesting on a show night.

Withrow Park is about ten minutes west, a proper Riverdale park with tennis courts, the outdoor pool in summer and the rink come winter. Push a little further west and Riverdale Park East gives you the classic downtown skyline view that ends up on half the city’s postcards.

East Lynn Park is about fifteen minutes east on Danforth, near Woodbine, and it is worth the walk on a Thursday for the East York farmers’ market that runs summer through early fall.

Go north into East York and you are in ravine country. Taylor Creek Park is a full ravine trail system with cycling paths and quiet corners, and Todmorden Mills Heritage Site is an 1795 industrial complex turned museum and wildflower preserve, tucked in its own valley off Broadview.
